Welcome Back to School

Welcome Parents,
I hope that you have had a smooth transition back to school.  I know that my kids have not enjoyed going to bed earlier than in the summer and getting up early, so hopefully things are a little different at your house.  I look forward to working with each of you this year.

My main source of communication this year will be through Seesaw.   Please watch the following video to see what Seesaw is all about.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent Videos

Dear Parent,
The Plano Gifted Advisory Committee meets throughout the year to provide input to the district on how to better meet the needs of students receiving gifted services. This year, the committee has requested that the district provide more information on gifted issues and topics to parents. In response to this request, the Plano ISD is providing parents access to three online courses from the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT); the courses expire at the end of May 2017.  Although the courses are designed for educators, members of the Gifted Advisory Committee found these three online workshops to be valuable to parents. To access the courses:

1.     Set up a username and password. To do this, click http://txgiftedcourses.responsivelearning.com/SelfRegistration/ and use the registration code p6010PISD8885
2.     Select the campus that your student attends. If you have students at multiple campuses, please pick one.
3.     You will now have access to the following three one hour courses:
·         Social Emotional Dimensions of the Gifted and the Impact of Asynchrony
·         Understanding the Neurology and Over Excitabilities of the Gifted
·         Idealism and Depression in the Gifted

Trouble shooting notes:
It is essential that you disable your popup blocker.
The courses are compatible with desktops, laptops and tablets in both PC and Mac, but are not compatible with smartphones.
Google Chrome tends to provide the best user experience.  (You may download Google Chrome here: https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/.)

If you need assistance, email support@responsivelearning.com and a support team member will be happy to assist you. Plano ISD employees are not able to resolve problems associated with this service.

3. Ahora tendrás acceso a los siguientes tres cursos de una hora: • Social Emotional Dimensions of the Gifted and the Impact of Asynchrony  • Understanding the Neurology and Over Excitabilities of the Gifted • Idealism and Depression in the Gifted (En este momento no hay cursos disponibles  en Español. )

Its been a long time

I hope that you and your family had relaxing Winter Break.  We came back form the break and hit the ground running.

First Grade
We have completed the SCAMPER Unit and now are working on applying what we learned to new situations.  This is challenging each child to look at things from a different angle.  Your child has created a new page for the book Ten Black Dots and we are now working on 100 Hungry Ants, where the students will be working with grouping.

Second Grade
Coding continues
I have purchased several different items that can be coded.  I am enjoying seeing each student use what they have learned in code studio and apply the skills to new situations.

Third Grade
Genius Hour-We just had pitch day.  This was an opportunity for each student to present their Genius Hour Project to the class.  Now it is time to research and then share out their finding.  We will be having a Genius Hour showcase at the conclusion of this unit.

Fourth Grade
Robotics- your student has built a Lego robot and is in the process of programming their robot to complete several challenges.  Each group is realizing the importance of logging their steps and then troubleshooting.

Fifth Grade
Stock Market- Are you a Risky or Safe Investor????? Do you believe in go BIG or GO HOME?
Your child is learning all about the Stock Market and the advantages and disadvantages of risky investment.  The students will be participating in the Stock Market Game that will begin on February 6.  Stay turned to see if your child's group is in the black or RED.
