Bummer

All,

Due to the forecast calling for heavy rain tomorrow, field day will be postponed until next Friday. Unfortunately, at this time, it looks like it may rain next week as well. If it rains heavily starting on Wednesday of next week, we will once again postpone field day until May. We want to thank you all so much for your understanding – fingers crossed we have a sunny week next week!

Change

I hope that you enjoyed looking at the pumpkins last week.  The students had a blast making them and voting on them.
I wanted to let you know that we will be shifting our schedule around a little bit beginning in November.  Please read the details below.  I hope you have a great weekend.

Dear Christie Families,
We want to thank you for your flexibility as we moved to a blocked specials schedule for the first part of the school year. The instructional planning time gained by teachers during the blocked schedule was used to plan ahead and review the larger picture of the school year. As the first nine weeks has come to an end, we are excited to share that beginning November 1st, we will be returning to the traditional schedule where specials takes place each day.
As always, thank you for your continued support!

Christie Elementary

We will have specials everyday at 12-12:50- yeah!!!!!
New specials rotation-
Monday-PE
Tuesday- Fitness/Music
Wednesday- PE
Thursday- Art

A hard week

I hope that you will be able to join us for the Engineering Expo on the 21st. My class has been working hard on testing, failing, not giving up (sometimes getting mad), and trying again. They are seeing that working with circuits is challenging and that you really do have to keep trying until it works.

Learning in action

Exploring with engineering

Stop-motion

This week has ended our study of space.  As a culminating activity the students create a stop-motion animation to discus their knowledge.  check out their project on Twitter and Kidblog.
In math, we are continuing to work on measurement using customary and metric systems.
I am looking forward to another great week as we are preparing for Open House and the end of the nine weeks.

STAAR Week is over

Please hug your child tonight and let him/her know how proud you are of them.  This has been a very stressful week for them.
I am very proud of each one of them.
We are in the home stretch.  Over the next few weeks we will be preparing for our Engineering Fair that will be on May 21, 2015.  Your child will be working through the enigeering process to prove that if you can dream it, you can create it.
I look foward to sharing with you some of the amazing creations that will come from the fair.

Spring Fever

I hope that you and your family are having a great week.  Your students have been working hard as we review key concepts that we have learned in Math and Science.  In a few weeks your child will be taking the Math and Science STAAR test.  I know that each one will show what they have learned this year and do well.
Please talk to your child about the importance of staying focused and finishing strong.  This is a very exciting time of year for Fifth Graders.  Most are looking forward to middle school and saying good-bye to elementary school.  While we have many exciting events and activities planned, we still have about two more months of school left and we are not finished yet.
Than you for your continued support,
Mrs. Jones

We are back!!!

The beginning of the year has been amazing.  Your children have been multiplying and dividing fractions, finding the area and perimeter of shapes and exploring with geometry.  I hope that your child has told you about some of the interesting topics that we have discussed in science and during our research time.
We are going to start a Kidblog site, so stay turned in for that address.  Your child will have a password that they will need to use to be able to see the site.  Also check out some photos of our classroom on Twitter.
